Ancient Rome: Coliseum, Roman Forum, Capitoline Hill
On this tour of Ancient Rome, we'll first visit the interior of Coliseum - without standing in any line. This huge arena, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheater, was the stage of gladiators and wild animal fights. We'll discover the truth about the Roman Gladiators and discuss the entertainment and daily life in ancient Rome. We'll see the functions the Coliseum had after the fall of the Roman Empire until it become the symbol of Rome's eternity throughout the centuries.
The tour continues with the visit to the ancient Roman Forum. We walk through what was the heart of the ancient metropolis. The Forum was the political, economic and social center of the Roman Empire. Visiting temples, basilicas and markets, will will learn about Roman's political, religious and commercial activities and gain a deeper understanding of how the Romans lived. You'll see where Julius Caesar was cremated, the Rostra where orators addressed their speeches, where the Vestal Virgins lived and worshipped their religious cult. Also, you will see where the Romans lined up to see the triumphal processions and to praise the winning Roman generals and army.
Following the same route of ancient times, we'll end our tour on Capitoline Hill, spiritual center of the Ancient World. Rome Caput Mundi refers to the Capitol ("caput" is head). It is the heart of the Roman Empire. In Campidoglio Square, you will enjoy the spectacular Renaissance Piazza designed by Michelangelo and dominated by the huge equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius. You will enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view over of the Roman Forum. The glories of Ancient Rome are not to be missed!
We will choose alternative routes for guests with walking difficulties. There are possible extensions to visit the Pantheon and the Imperial Palace on the Palatine Hill.
